How to sponsor my Spouse or Common-Law Partner?
If you're a Canadian citizen or Permanent resident of Canada, you may be eligible to bring your foreign spouse or common-law partner to Canada permanently. You can sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner under the family sponsorship class. To do so, you must support them financially and make sure they don't need social assistance from the government. There are two applications involved in this process: Application to become a sponsor, application for permanent residency. You must send both the sponsorship and the permanent residence applications together at the same time. Based on your country of residence at the time of file submission, you and your spouse can apply as an Outland or Inland sponsorship applicant.
To qualify under the Inland sponsorship category, both spouses should be living together in Canada at the time of application submission and during the sponsorship application process. In addition to that, the foreign spouse must have temporary status in Canada as a worker, student, or Visitor.
